How to install Memcached

Installing Memcached on Ubuntu is very straightforward.

Run the following commands:

sudo apt install memcached

After installing memcached then you can start/restart/stop memcached with the following commands:

sudo service memcached start
sudo service memcached restart
sudo service memcached stop

By default, memcached will use port 11211, and it does not appear to provide any log indication of whether the service status changed. But you can check if memcached is listening to a given port using the commmand:

sudo netstat -ap | grep 11211

That’s all there is to it :)
